Your Tennessee Luel Cain seems to have followed the same path that my Cherokee Volner/Knife family did.My Samuel Volner and his Cherokee wife, Synthie Knife, were in Sumner/Smith Co., TN ca 1808-1825.Supposedly they died in TN or GA.Their son, William Volner and his wife, Mary Polly Weeks were living in Robertson Co., TN (next door to Sumner) in 1840.According to the Eastern Cherokee Applications of their son, John Volner, in 1906, they started out to the Nation in Oklahoma in 1851.However, they stopped in southeastern Missouri at "Turnback Mountain with the rest of the refugees" and went back across the Mississippi River to "make crop and then go on".However, they stayed in UNION CO, ILLINOIS.Some of their children, however, remained in MISSOURI in REYNOLDS, IRON, and TEXAS counties. My grandmother, Mary Volner, was born in Dongola, Union County, Illinois. This may not help in your search, but it sure is odd how they followed the same track.
