The place of origin is all-important in Irish genealogical research, and Cain is a name found in several different locations in Ireland. In my family's case I had to use DNA to find that we matches the Cains of Co Galway, although the biggest group in the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com are the Cains of Ulster.
Any clues what part of Ireland your family came from?
