Alice, My notes have that other O'Cains on the 1800 census of Martin County, NC living near William were: John O' Cain, Thomas O'Cain, and Elizabeth O'Cain. Elizabeth was a widow age 45 at this time. MAYBE the mother of William...not sure..just a guess.. Elizabeth "Betty" O'Cain was said to have been a widow of Daniel O'Cain who fought in the Revolutionary War. Have you come across Daniel in your research? Since the census begins with 1790 I have not traced William O'Cain any further back ..yet.... William O'Cain and wife Joyce Ann had the following children: Lawrence Larry Cain, Ann Cain, Bartholomew "Bat" Cain, William II Cain, Lenia/Susannah Cain, and Randel O'Cain. Randel's last name remained O'Cain since he died before his father. As I mentioned the children did not change to CAIN until after their father's death. I will see what else I can find as time permits... Would love to know more on the Cains/O'Cains.. Keep in touch if you would like to... Susan in SC Notify Administrator about this message?
