i've been trying to find the parents of mariah cain, along with talma klaassen, michael swords and probably countless other people! mariah was born 8-2-1820. putnam county, mo census puts place of birth in west virginia. she married william madison bruce in shelby co, illinois 1-20-1841, and died 5-4-1903 in putnam co, mo. there is extremely strong circumstantial evidence she was the daughter of russell and elizabeth cain. that cain family was in shelby county at the right period obviously, but the most compelling coincidence is apparrent when you look a the names of russell cain's other children, especially lorenzo dow, malinda, martha elizabeth, and william m. mariah cain bruce had children named david lorenzo dow, martha elizabeth, and malinda, and i'll bet you russell cain's son william m, has madison for a middle name. also lorenzo dow cain and family settled in newtown, mo, 10 miles from where william madison and mariah bruce settled. and finally, l. d. cain named one of his daughters mariah. i guess what i'm wondering is if it's possible 1840 census was used and mariah was left off due to marriage 1-1841, or something to that effect. i have searched for obit of l.d. cain in local paper hoping mariah would be listed as sib, but none exists. any help would be appreciated!
thanks,
bill
