They did live in Richmond Co. at one time. Also some were in Dooley Co. in 1830. Later they were in Florida, then Louisiana.
I have no proof of this, but the pattern fits that of the poor Irish who landed in the South following the 1798 Rebellion and on through the famine. Many worked at jobs too dangerous for slave labor for a pitance. they also were trying to make their way to Texas for free land and a free life after years of slavery to the crown.
Leo Tanner says that William Sr. was born in Killybeggs Ireland.I haven't met him nor seen his proof.Abel and his clan came to Texas along with brother William Jr. in the late 1840's early 50's.However, after the Civil War, some went back to Louisiana.William Jr. returned with some of his family to the Florida panhandle.
Some irish people with similar names were in South Carolina and Hancock Co. Georgia. However, they were here long before our bunch arrived. They may have been relatives, and this could have been the impetus for coming to the Southern USA. That is conjecture.
