Hi Lori:
Ballyjamesduff is the name of a Methodist parish in Cavan. It was likely named after Ballyjamesduff (Irish: Baile Shéamais Dhuibh, meaning "Town of Black James") is a medium-sized town with a population of 2,240 in County Cavan in Ireland.
I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800.
Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%.
Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database.
Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome).
For Mary Caffrey B 1883 +/- 2 yrs somewhere in Ireland with a father forenamed Michael, I found 4 rcds: 1882 Meath, 1882 Cavan Castlerahan parish, 1883 Mayo, and 1884 Cavan Castlerahan parish.
For Bri(dget) Caffrey B 1887 ditto, I found 0 rcds.
For Mich(ael) Caffrey M 1878 +/- 4 yrs in Co. Cavan, I found 1 rcd in 1874, Castlerahan parish.
For Mary Martin M ditto, I found 0 rcds. It is unlikely, but not unknown, for the groom's rcd to exist without the bride's. Therefore the rcd for Michael is likely a false positive.
Searching for a Michael-Mary marriage in other counties, I found POTENTIAL matches in 1879 Meath, 1882 Down, and 1882 Fermanagh. You will have to search each yr/cnty combination at the parish level to see if there is a match for a parish. If so, then this is likely the rcd for your ancestors.
Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
