Searching for some data on the George Walker = Mary Meade family a while ago I happened on the GenForum/Caffery forum and your reply w.r.t. the George Walker - Rachel Caffery Family Group. I am a descendant of the other Walker - Caffery marriage: John Walker - Sarah "Sallie" Caffery. John was George's younger brother, just as Sarah was Rachel's younger sister. If you need any information on them, I may be the only family member who can help you. I noticed also that you didn't send the Catherine "Kitty" data along with the Rachel. I have two letters from Cafferys - one from Senator Donelson Caffery to my great grandmother's sister (Sallie's grandaughter) dated 27 Feb 1897. The Senator wasn' very knowledgable
about his genealogy. The other is from the Senator's sister Eliza Maria (mar. Harmon Drew 28 Dec 1897). The letter is dated 7 May 1879, though the year is determined from the contents.

I am talking as if you are the Caffery expert, is that correct? I noticed Part I of Charles Caffery's writings is mentioned. Do you have Part II? I got a copy of it a few years ago, I believe it was from the LSU library. Anyway, if you are still around and interested in the Cafferys, I'd enjoy hearing from you.

One other note on the George/Rachel Line-#9 son Courtenay Meade Walker:
I have notes that he left John Caffery Walker about 1829, went west, ultimately became a "Mountain Man", settled in Oregon, and died in 1886. Specifically, in the book "Across the Wide Missouri", p. 181, it says he hired on as a hand in the train of Nat Wyeth that left Richmond Mo in 1834 for the west, taking with them Jason Lee and his missionaries. He apparently left the train at Ft Hall in Idaho, where he was for a time "factor" there for the Hudson Bay Company (ref p. 173). Also ref:
LeRoy R. Hafen. "Mountain Men and Fur Traders of the Far West", p. 357; on 7 Dec 1839, Joe Meek's wife gave birth to a son named Courtney Walker Meek, after the trader then in charge at Ft. Hall.

Incidently, I suspect Courtney is this fellow's correct name. Courtenay is usually, but not always, used for the feminine; after Frances Courtenay who married the wealthy merchant of Bardadoes & Norfolk, Robert Tucker. He died young, and she then married "Scotch" Tom Nelson, apparently another well known Virginia person. Her daughter Courtenay Tucker, before the will was settled, was married by Jacob Walker one of the executors. Pretty sharp fellow, huh? Before that, the Walkers had been "govt" employees, after that, they became wealthy landowners, lawyers, etc. Jacob Walker was the grandfather of our George Walker of Nicholasville, Ky.
The Frances Courtenay is still being carried on in the Walker line, and has been in the Baylor, Temple, and several others.

I also posted a reply to you on the Walker forum
