Mark - Thanks so much for your response. I have sent you an e-mail with my mailing address and would appreciate seeing the paper copy.

I took your info and went to the archives. I found three George W. Cady's who served from Michigan in the civil war. One each from Co D of the 10th Infantry, Co G of the 9th Infantry, and Co D of the 8th Cavalry. It appears my George was from the 9th infantry based on where the unit served (Nashville) and the fact that this George died in 1865 (based on the application for a widow pension filed in September 1865 and the lack of a discharge date on the service index card).

I also tried to trace my Harry (Henry) and his brother Martin and found them both in Nebraska in 1880. This was a bit distressing since my Cady ancestor who lists Harry/Henry as his father was born in 1876, but I've always suspected he was from an earlier marraige. I still don't know how/why Henry left his family in Nebraska to join the NYC Railroad in Buffalo. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks again,

Anne
