I found an error in my reply.

A quick visit to the Michigan in the Civil War Archives (http://users.aol.com/dlharvey/cwmireg.htm) gives the information of George W. Cady as enlisted in Company C of the Eighth Michigan Cavalry (not the infantry). He was age 21 when he enlisted in 1862 and from the town Metamora, MI. George is buried in the National Cemetary in Nashville, TN. The web site also gives quite detailed information about the regiment's service in the Civil War.
