Anne,
Here's some information I believe you will find helpful.

David Cady, born: Connecticut, his father was of English Descent. Elizabeth Cady Stanton is a cousin of his. Children of David:

George W. Cady, native of Montgomery Co., NY, born 15 Dec 1810. In 1854 came west with his parents and settled in Branch Co., MI. Bought 480 acres of land. He was married to Eliza Frederick in 1834 in Ontario Co., NY. Eliza was born in Dutchess Co., NY and died in Butler Co., NE at the age of 69 years.

George W. Cady enlisted in the Eighth Michigan Infantry during the Civil War. He died in the hospital at Nashville, TN 4 July 1865. The children of George and Eliza were Martin and Henry C. Cady.

Martin Cady (born 10 Aug 1837 Periton, Monroe Co, NY) left Michigan in March 1861 and went to California to work the mines, had a ranch lost by fire. In 1866 he returned to Branch Co., MI. On 21 Dec 1857 he married Ellen McDonald, daughter of Edward McDonald of Branch Co., MI. In 1869, Martin and family left Michigan and came to Platte Valley, NE and took up 80 acres. They had the following children, Fred C, George C, and Mina E (Houston) wife of Harry Houston. Martin was a grand master mason, and founder of the First Baptist Church of Bellwood.

Henry C. Cady, son of George W.and Eliza, was an engineer on the N.Y.C & H.R.R. and a resident of Buffalo Co., NY.

This information came from the Compendium of Biography of Fillmore, Butler, York Counties Nebraska. If you would like I could send you a paper copy of the complete write-up via mail.

By this account, David and wife (and possibly George W.) were buried in Michigan. Eliza and son Martin and his family would be buried in Nebraska. To answer your question...George W. Cady would have resided in Michigan during 1850 when the census was taken. Hope this helps you out.

Mark Nichols
