Ted, I was going over some old research and I believe I understand some of your confusion: I found Ely’s attached to several families in New York. It seems that your relative was born in the black hole of Cady Genealogy (Upstate New York). He was born at a time when cady’s from Connecticut had moved to New York and Vermont. But this was only a resting place as many moved thru in the west for land. (this is also true of many other New England ancestors). I found Ely listed to Palmer, Oliver, Elisha and Ebenezer, I found three Cady brothers who married Waterman sisters. I found a lot of stuff that I cannot figure out. Like you I am looking for the father of my ancestor, like you there are several candidates. I recently looked for Ely at Familysearch.org and Ancestry.com (Family trees) and there are a lot of claims but no documentation. The search family trees of Ancestry.com is a pay service, but it allows you to attach documents to the family tree and this seems to help. Do you have any favorites? also, I have a large database of Cady's on e-Rolladex Cards they are all from New York 1790 to 1820, if you are interested. Notify Administrator about this message?
