I was checking Census records for NY and I found a Hail in Genessee Co, NY in 1840 with a son Charles b 1823,

I believe you reported Hazel in WI in 1850 with Charles b 1823. If this report was from a Census, when we have a smoking gun connection.

The link might be from passanger lists on the Great Lakes. Basically, there were no roads and no railroads to speak of before 1850 to Wisconson.

The only Hail Cady's, I could find were
Hail (or Jehail)b 1810 Sullivan, VT
son of Jonathan,Elijah,William,Nicholas,Nicholas
Hail b 1810 Windham,CT (Very close to Providence,RI)
son of Joseph,Joseph,Capt.David,Joseph,Nicholas
This Joseph (1772)had 15 children and only two names are known to me.
