Jack gave you some good info, but I have studied this family back to 1588. See my post from August Six Generations of Cadys -1770 to 2000. The family is well documentated from
Nicholas>Joseph>David>David>Joseph`Cleveland>Horace Harvey>
John Cleveland etc. Nicholas was a Constable of Groton,MA This was like a Mayor/Sheriff. Joseph,David and David were all Captains of training bands (Militia) david Jr rushed to the aid of Lexington in 1775 making ancestors eligible for DAR membership. David's wife Lois Cleveland has roots back voer 20 generations. Joseph Cleveland Cady is a disappointment, he deserted his family in 1803-4. Son's Chauncey and Horace were active in Politics in Michigan, each served terms in the House of Representatives. The family is listed on Familysearch.org
and several other genealogy web sites.
