Need more info. I did a check of the obvious sources but it would help to have a time line. Elihu is definitely of biblical origin, which might put him in with the New England Puritans. He is not listed in Allen's book of Descendants of Nicholas Cady, but that does not mean much, there are dozens of possible families.
This might help, if you can find where he first appear in time and place. Born, Married or Died. Only about half the Cady families appear on Census records before 1800. Before 1850, I'd guess with migration, maybe even less. After 1850, the records improve. Before 1800 the birth rate was doubling ever 28 years, after 1820 it was doubling much faster. It took 50 years for the population to double after 1950.
