Does any of the following sound familiar to you Cady researchers? IRISH LASS WHO CAME HERE 69 YEARS AGO, NINETY TODAY Mrs. Ellen Sullivan Herlihy Recalls Easter Ocean Voyage at Age of 21; Honored on Birthday It was 69 easters ago that Ellen Sullivan, a blue-eyed colleen of 21 years, set sail alone from County Cork, Ireland, for a strange town by the name of Mansfield, somewhere in the heart of an unknown country. She was bouyed up by a high courage that one would expect in a girl who had learned to do the irish jig to the tune of gay music from the moors. The "girl" of that long ago adventure observed her 90th birthday Friday and will be feted with a family dinner tomorrow. She is Mrs. Ellen Herlihy, 120 West Sixth Street. When she was a little girl, her uncle, Michael Cady, decided to come to America. Ellen was his favorite neice and when he said goodbye, he promised her that in a few years he would send for her. And he did. He came to Mansfield and it was from here that he sent passage fare to the young girl in Ireland. It was with dark forboding that her parents permitted her to go, but Ellen was eager for the adventure. She never saw any member of her family again except a brother who later came to the new country. After she had been in Mansfield five years, Ellen met and married Patrick Herlihy, and after his death ten years later, she worked here to raise her children. She has three children living. They are James Herlihy, 137 West Fifth Street; and two daughters at home, Mayme and Catherine. The place was Mansfield, Richland Co., Ohio and the dates for Ellen were born 4-14-1843 in Ireland and died 12-27-1935 in Mansfield. They married in Mansfield on 4-3-1869 where they raised 5 children, only one of which married and had children. They were Daniel, John D., Mary (Mayme), Catherine C. and James M.
