Orrin P. Allen, author of "Descendants of Nicholas Cady of Watertown, Mass., 1645-1910" (published in 1910) made the following statement and assumption regarding the ancestry of Noah Cady of Hancock, Vermont (see page 241):
To the best of my knowledge, this is the only source for the belief that Noah was a son of Isaac-5 Cady. But, because it was, until recent years, virtually the only Cady genealogy in existence, it had considerable influence in perpetuating this incorrrect supposition. It has since been proven that Noah-5 Cady, born August 22, 1766, Chesterfield, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, was a son of James-4 Cady and his wife, Patience (Bacon) Cady. The line is Nicholas-1 Cady & Judith Knapp; Captain Joseph-2 Cady & Sarah Davis; Jonathan-3 Cady & Elizabeth/Betty; James-4 Cady & Patience Bacon. The sources for Noah's true ancestry are as follows: 1. Noah Cady's Bible records in my possession (Robert Cady Gates, 8337 Pavilion Drive, Hudson, FL 34667) contain the birth date (Feb. 18, 1733) and the death date (Dec. 25, 1816) for James-4 Cady. 2. A Chesterfield New Hampshire birth record for Noah Cady, son of James Cady and Patience Cady, born August 20 [sic], 1766. This record, certified by E.A. Safford, Clerk of Chesterfield, NH on Aug. 25, 1905, is on file at the State of New Hampshire, Bureau of Vital Records, Hazen Drive, Concord, NH. 3. "The Ancestors of Edna Frances Cady" (1991) by Robert Cady Gates. See pages 51-2. 4. "Cady Genealogy Revised and Updated" (1991) by James W. Cady. See 5153-4. 5. "History of Chesterfield, Cheshire County, New Hampshire" (1882) by Oran E. Randall. See Noah Cady birth record, with parents shown, on page 240.
