WILLIAM CADY Son of Joseph and Sarah [Davis] Cady or Nicholas2 and Patience [Redland] Cady Orrin Peer Allen in his book "Descendents of Nicholas Cady" published in 1910 suggests both Joseph and Nicholas2, sons of Nicholas1, had a son William but does not have a birth date for either. In Allen's list of Joseph's children regarding William he states "I can find no other family to which he can reasonably be assigned". This researcher has not found any information other than Allen which indicates Joseph and Sarah had a son William but several references indicate otherwise - - a Certified Genealogical Record Specialist living in Connecticut checked both church and vital records at the State Library and advised he could not find information of Joseph having a son William. - the births of their children Joseph, James, Issac, Abigail and Stephen are listed in "Vital Records of Groton" but there is no mention of William. Unfortunately, there is not a record of any birth of children to Nicholas and Patience Cady. - "Representative Men and Old Families of Rhode Island" list the same children stating " after the birth of his fifth child Mr. Cady removed to the Plantation of Connecticut, known as Killingly". He sold his property at Groton in 1702/3 and purchased 150 acres at Killingly in early 1703 where son David was born later the same year. - "Genealogical Dictionary of The First Settlers Of New England" list the same children as above - "Genealogies of the Families and Descendents of the Early Settlers of Watertown" list the same children as above. Not all birth dates in the above sources are identical but the five names are and none mention a son William. ****************** In contrast we know Nicholas and Patience had a son William, who was listed as the eldest son in his Father’s will presented at Preston in 1725 [Allen]. He is listed the same way in “An audit of what was advanced by Nicholas Cady to his children in his lifetime”, signed by his Mother in 1726. In an audit of Nicholas’debts also signed by his wife in 1726, William’s name appears along with brother Nathaniel and sister Joanna.. In a deed Nicholas signed his mark is the traditional “X” Patience mark was the letter “P”. ****************** Notify Administrator about this message?
