We the subscribers being appointed by the cort of probate to set out one third
part of the rale estate of Aron Cadwell late of hart ford deceast to his widdo
Rachel Cadwel now wife of mr Ebenezer Willyamson we being under oath
1 we began and measured at the east end from mr. Goodwins corner two rods and
fore feet to a stake and ston runin thew the well to the west end and measured
from Goodwins southwest corner north twelve feet to a stake at the south
corner room and a third part of seller and a third part of the well set out to
her thirds of said homsted
2 then we went into the south medo and began next mr. John Leyan? and measured
sixty one rods to cornol John Whitins land and measured three rods and half at
each end to stakes set up
3 then we went into the north medo to the triangul peace and measured fore
rods and an half to a stake by the crick then we began at the north east
corner and measured for rods and half to a stake
4 then we went to a smal lot a littel north on the west side of rod and laid
out one rod wide on the north sid of said lot butin north on the heirs of John
Andrus and south on the same lot
5 then went on est sid said rode and measured a rod and twelve feet at each
end to stakes next to the same lot
6 .... to a lot at moses Cadwels and began at the souwest corner next thomas
bur and measured eight rods east from stake then we began at the north west
corner next Jes Olcot and measured eight rods to a stake by a warnut stump
nextsaid lot then went to the ox paster lot end and began at hezekiah Merelses
fence at the west end and measured ten rods to a stake by an othr stake peled
with a small bit of medo at the west end of said merelles lot then we went to
the east end and began at northeast corner measur'd 5 rods to a stake next to
said lot also we agre that each party shall have liberty to pas and repas to
the west end of said lot or lots as acasion shall require
this done and ... by us the subscribers

distribution was anexed by this court...
Persuant to an order from the Hounrable Court of Probate We the Subscribers
Proceded to make a distribution of the Real Estate of Aron Cadwell dec'd to
have set out to s'd Cadwells Heirs their several Preportion as follows.
To Thos. Cadwell His part in the home Lot on the North side being 57 Rod of
ground to extend the whole Length of the Lot from the Highway to the east end
of s'd Lot & south so far as to make the 57 Rod above mentioned together with
the old house standing on s'd Lot & the use of half the well
Set to Jona'th Cadwell His lpart being the south part of the home Lot th't is
51 rods of ground and the half the well also one acre & 21 rods of ground att
the south End of the South meadow Lot.
Set to James Cadwell His Part Seven acres two Rods & 27 rods of ground ****
the of pasture Lot one the South [illegible] next Jonath Butlers Lot Also one
acre & 19 Rods att the north end of the South meadow Lot
Set to Moses Cadwell His part in the north meadow the triangular Lot Also the
Lot Lying a Little North of the meadow being all the Land in the North meadow.
Set to the Heirs of Hannah Chappell their part the west Half of the Lot Moses
Cadwell now lives on being five acres & half also one acre & three quarters In
the South meadows Lot being the middle part of s'd lot.
Set to Lois Cadwell now White Her part twelve acres one Rood & 13 Rod, on the
North side of the [illegible] past'r Lot being all the Remaining part of s'd
Lot
The above Distribution performed by us the subscribers this 22d of Aug't 1754
which we Judge is an equall proportion to each of the above mentioned heirs
the above mentioned heirs are all well agred with the above Distribution &
signified the same to us the [illegible]

In persuance of an order from the Hon. Court of Probate for the district of
Hartford to assign and set out to Chloe Cadwell widow of Aaron Cadwell late of
Bloomfield in said district deceased the use and improvement of one third part
of the real estate which said deceased stood possessed of at the time of his
death, to be to her during her natural life as right of dower therein.
The subscribers appointed distributors have preceeded as follows viz:
Assigned and set out to the aforesaid Chloe Cadwell, the home or Fish farm so
called together with the buildings standing thereon, bounded south on Augustus
Shephards land, west on Augustus Shephard & others land and partly on Highway,
North on Ambrose Burr & Brothers, and others land and partly on highway and
East on George Humphreys and others land, a highway passing through the same
and contains one hundred acres of land be the same more or less.
Also one other piee land, being a part of the Keys and Wills farm,
situate in the town of Hartford, laying about a mile south of the aforesaid
Fish farm, commencing at the center of the Pond, (so called) for the west line
of s'd piece running easterly with the north line of said farm about twenty
rods to a stake and stones, thence south to the south line of said farm, a
pile of stones being placed about a poplar tree, towards the south side of
said farm, thence westly to the center of the pond being about twenty rods,
thence north to the north line of said farm to the center of the pond the
place of the beginning, bounded west and east on land belonging to the heirs
of Aaron Cadwell dec'd, north on Alden Cadwells land, and south on Asa
Goodmans land, and containing about 9 acres with privilege of passing to and
from the same through the afores'd Keyes and Wills farm.
All which is respectfully submitted

First set to Alden Cadwell one piece of land lying west of the highway &
on the north side and bounds north by land of said Alden, East by highway,
south by land set to Clarinda Phelps wife of Humphrey Phelps of New Yrok City
and west by land set to the widow Chloe Cadwell as part of her third or dower
in her deceased husband Aaron Cadwells estate and contains about 17 3/4 acres
& 12 rods, also one piece on the East side of the highway and bounds north by
land of William Shepard & Thomas Lamb east by said Lamb South by land set to
Clarissa Phelps of aforesaid and west by highway containing about 4 1/2 acres.
Second set to Clarinda Phelps aforesaid one piece & bounds north by land
set to Alden Cadwell, east by highway, south by lands set to Jamin Cadwell,
and west by the widows thirds and contains about 15 acres, also one piece
bounds north by lnad set to Alden Cadwell, east by Thomas Lamb, south by land
set to Jamin Cadwell and west by hilghway, and contains about 4 acres 2 roods
& 5 rods.
Third set to Jamin Cadwell one piece of land bounding north by land set
to Clarinda Phelps, east by highway south by land set to Fidelia Hubbard wife
of Joab H. Hubbard and west by the widows third and contains about 12 acres
with one half of the dwelling house & other buildings standing on the same,
also one piece bounding north by land set to said Clarinda East by Thomas
Lamb, south by lands set to Fidelia Hubbard & west by highway containing about
4 1/2 acres.
Fourth set one piece to Fidelia Hubbard bounding north by land set to
Jamin Cadwell, east by highway, south by land set to Chloe Filley wife of
Harvey Filley of Philadelphia and west by the widow Choloe Cadwell and
contains about 16 1/4 acres with one half of the dwelling house and other
buildings standing on the same, also one piece bounding north by land set to
Jamin Cadwell, east by Thomas Lamb, South by land set to Melissa Watson & west
by highway and contains about 1 3/4 acre with the barn standing on the same
the four shares west of the highway are 880 links widw at the east end and
1211 links wide at the weat end at right angles with the north line and the
four pieces east the highway are 650 links widw at the west end and 550 at the
east end at right angles with the north line.
Fifth set one piece to Chloe Filley bounding north by land set to Fidelia
Hubbard East by highway, South by land set to Melissa Watson wife of William
Watson and west by the widows third and is 300 links widw at the east end and
307 at the west end and contains about 18 2/4 acres & 20 rods with the barn
standing on the same.
Sixth set one piece to Melissa Watson bounding north by land set to chloe
Filley, East by highway, South by land set to Sarah Hubbard wife of David S.
Hubbard in part and partly by land belonging to the heirs of Asa Goodman and
west partly by said heirs and partly by the widows third and contains about 18
1/4 acres 30 rods being 300 links in width at the east end and at the west end
248 links and at the corner of Asa Goodmans 307 links in width, being near the
west end by the swamp. Also one piece bounding north by land set to Fidelia
Hubbard, East by Thomas Lamb, south by land set to Sarlah Hubbard and west by
highway and is 350 links wide at the west end and 200 links widw at the east
end and contains about 7 acres.
Seventh set the remainder of both pieces of land to Sarah Hubbard, first
piece bounds north by land set to Melissa Watson, east by highway, south by
Jonathan Butlers land and west by the heirs of Asa Goodman and contains about
17 2/4 acres 3 roods also the ***** contains about 6 3/4 acres and bounds
north by land set to Melissa Watson, east & south by Thomas Lamb and west by
highway, any and all of the within named heirs are to have a right of pass
with oxen & horses up and down in the old road or cartway where it has
formerly been traveled, from the highway to the pond so called, and all the
owners of said pieces of land where divided have a stand and stone for bounds.

...set a certain portion or tract of land formerly belonging to Aaron
Cadwell late of Bloomfield deceased and since set out to the widow Chloe
Cadwell as her third or right or dower in the real estate of said Aaron
Cadwell, to the estate of Jamin Cadwell deceased, viz, 1/7 part of a certain
tract of land being in said Bloomfield & contains in all about 98 acres 0 (?)
30 (?) said piece or portion of land being by us considered 1/7 of the whole
in value and bounds north by highway, west by highway, & since previously set
to the said Chloe Cadwell, South by land of said Chloe and George Humphrey and
east by said Humphreys land & land of Daniel L. Parsons partly on each and
contains about 15 1/4 acres 14 rods with the barn standing on said land.

adjoining said Aldens land commencing at the southwest corner by highway

thence southerly by a range of bounds & from 527 links thence N degrees 72 W
840 links to the highway thence northerly by said highway 477 links to the
place of beginning and contains about 3 3/4 acres and 35 rods. Also one piece
of land being opposite said piece as described above and west of highway
commencing by said highway at a stake & stone on a stone wall near an Elm tree

...I sold the following real estate belonging to Sam'l, Harriet, and
Charlotte Cadwell of Glastonbury, formerly of Bloomfield, minors, to Theodore
Cadwell of Bloomfield & have delivered to him a deed therefor viz:
An undivided interest in a certain tract of land lying in the town of
Bloomfield containing about 20 acres bounded North by Highway, East by Lester
Lattimer & Allen Cadwell, south by Hiram and John Lattimer and West by
Theodore Cadwell, Amount of sale $1830.00 Expenses of sale $12.99.

Contract between Samuel Cadwell & Jerusha Cadwell: ...witnesseth that the said

distribution.
I Edward Cadwell Sen'r of Hartford in the County of Hartford in the Colony of
Connecticut in New England Husbandman from a constant *** ***** of my own
mortality and have **** sett my house in order being grown into years being of
sound dispossing mem[ ] do now make this my last will and Testament in manner
and forme as follows. That is to say Imprimis that my Just debts and funeral
Charges be paid by my Executro hereinafter named.
Item I give and bequesth unto my beloved wife Elizabeth the use and
improvements of one third part of all my housing and lands during the terme of
her natural life, and also one third part of my personall or moveable estate
to be at her own dispose forever. I also give her my negro or mulatto boy
Diego during the time my wife shall continue my widow and when that **** shall
terminate my will is my son William shall have him s'd Diego to be to him
forever.
Item I give, grant and bequeath unto my son Edward Cadwell one piece of
upland near the north part of the township of Hartford and within the s'd
township containing about five or six acres be the same mpore or less, bounded
upon land of the heirs of Rich'd Lord Esq'r dec'd East and upon the west River
West also two acres of land little more or less in the south meadow in
Hartford aforesaid bounded East upon Col'l ___ridge his land West upon Cap't
Joseph Whiting South upon John Catlin North upon John Sheppard or lands
improved by Wm. Also one piece of land in s'd meadow (in the place called the
great pasture) containing about two acres butted upon the highway Est Land of
Mr. Nath'l Stanly South upon lands of the heris of Thomas Bunce ____ and also
one piece in the long meadow in s'd Hartford containing about one acre butted
upon the great River Easterly lands sometime since Improved by Thomas Olcott
dec'd North and NW Nathan'l Hanly South and Cap't Joseph Wadsworth West all
which parcells of land I give to my s'd son Edward and to his heirs and
assigns forever. Also fifteen acres upland more or less lying in a great
parcel half whereof I have given him in deed butts on Deac Eatton heirs East
on ---- West etc --------- All the rest of my lands whatsoever and wheresoever
situate I give grant and bequeath unto my two sons the said Edward Cadwell and
my son William Cadwell to be equally divided between them with respect to both
quantity and quality to be to them their heirs and assigns forever
respectively in the proportion aforesaid without any regard in what I have
already by deed of Gift made over to them or either of them.
Item I give and bequeath unto my two daughters Elizabeth and Rachell to each
of them the sum of fifty pounds Reckoned as mony to be paid by my said sons in
currant mony with what I have already or hereafter in my life time shall pay
toward the said fifty pounds each or to be paid out of my moveable or personal
estate after my said wife hath had her thirds at the Inventory s'd price there
of (which they please) my said sons to pay the remainder of the said fifty
pounds if any want there be. And if there shall happen a surplusage of
moveable or personal Estate of mine viz more than enough to pay the said fifty
pounds each to my said daughters, my will is that what remains there of shall
be equally divided between my said two daughters.
My Will further is that if either my son Edward or William shall happen to dye
without issue male of his body lawfully begotten that then the land hereby
given to that my said son so dying shall go and discend to my surviving son,
my son so surviving paying one fourth part of the value thereof to the
daughters of my son so dying if any be, or if there by none to her, and two
fourth part of said value to my two daughters aforesaid to be equally divided
between them.
And further my Will is that after my decease John Cadwell who now dwells with
and is bound to me, if I happen to dye before his time is out, shall go to my
son William according to the Indentures and that my s'd son William shall pay
the twenty pounds due by the said Indentures to the said John when his time is
out. My Will also further is that if the said Diego happen to live, so that
by force of this my Will, he come to serve my said son William, my said son
William shall in consideration thereof pay to each of my two daughters or
their heirs the sum of five pounds currant money. Lastly I appoint my said
two sons Executors of this my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I
have hereunto sett my hand & seal this second day of January anno R't R't

Memorandam that Edward & William Cadwel of Hartford in the County of Hartford
have hereby made partition between them for themselves their heirs & assigns
for ever of sundry lands to them belonging in Hartford afores'd in manner &
forme following viz of one piece of meadow land lying on both sides of the
creek in the Long meadow it is agreed that the s'd William shall have his part
thereof beginning at the southern side thereof & extending northward to the
Creek ----- --- --- --- thereof & then to pass over the Creek & to proceed
northwardly untill it come to the land which was formerly bought of ---
Olmsted and the residue of the land northward viz that which was bought of
Olmsted afores'd the s'd Edward shall have for his part allowing liberty to
the s'd William to pass & repass through the same to his own land as his
necessary occasion shall call for to him the s'd William his heirs & assignes
for ever.
Item the s'd William shall have the eastern part of that Lott in the s'd long
meadow called the upper lott Beginning at the Great River & extending west
untill it include all th't hath been plowed in the s'd Lott and the Residue of
the s'd Lott shall be to the s'd Edward with all the Lott of upland adjoining
next westward upon it.
Item the s'd Edward shall have the whole of one Lott to them belonging at a
place called the West Division & the s'd Edlward his heirs &c shall for ever
maintain the whole of the common fence belonging to the upper most neck Lott.
Item the Lower Lott in the Long meadow Edward shall have the Southern half
thereof & William the northern halfe thereof.
Lastly one Lane --- Meadow called the fourty acres the s'd Edward shall have
that which Lyeth at the head of the Long Land & is parted therefrom by a path,
then Edward shall Begin at the east side & his part shall extend westward
untill it include one halfe of the Lott with what he first hath Taken at the
head of the Long Land before mentioned & the residue of the s'd Lott the s'd
William shall have for his part. In confirmation where & in Testimony that
this is the very act & deed of the s'd Edward & William Cadwell have hereunto
sett their hands and affixed Their seals In Hartford This Twenty fifth Day of

dowry therein and also the said Vilot shall have a sum of three pounds ten
shillings in the home lot of the s'd Elijah CAdwell Dec'd after the Decease of
the said Rebekah her mother.
2ndly Rebekah Cadwell the widow & relict of the said dec'd shall have her
right of dowry in said real estate all of it to be in the house & homelot of
the said Elijah Deceased in Hartford with the Improvement of the three pound
ten shilling Right of the afores'd Vilots during her natural life and after
her death then the right of three pound ten shilling as aforesaid reverts &
becomes the property of the s'd Vilot & her heirs etc forever.
3rdly Rebekah the Eldest Daughter of the said dec'd shall have & hold to
herself her heirs & assigns forever all the homelot & --- --- house standing
thereon with all the priviledges and appurtenances thereof except the three
pound ten shilling right of Vilot as aforesaid and her mothers right as widows
dowry for life...

north meadow so called butting south on Joseph Tallcott north on Daniel Godwin
and East on Highway West on the Upland containing by estimation 5 acres & an
hlaf alreded set out unto Rebekah Relict of the s'd Elijah a small Room being
the south west part of said house also one half of the chamber viz the west
half & one half of the cellar under s'd house with Liberty of passing &
repassing therefrom s'd apartments also the improvement of one third part of
