Hi,
I was doing research awhile ago into our family history.
For years I was led to believe that Caldwell was a sept of the campbells, Campbells of Cawdor to be exact, and that Caldwell was a derivative of Caddell, who belong to that Clan.
However Caldwell is a family of its own. There is no tartan that I know of.
The family comes from near Glasgow, in the West of Scotland. There is a village which bears the name and a Caldwell house, which was an 'old folks home', but I think there was a fire there recently, so I don't know what its like now.
My family come from the East of Scotland, near Edinburgh. I have traced them as far back as about 1700, but I didn't find any Walters.
If I can be of any further help please get in touch.
Ken
