The Trinidad Colo. sparked my interest in your Francis Cadwell! Most of my family settled in Colorado, Nebraska, Wyoming and South Dakota. My Cadwell goes as follows!!
Viola Cadwell was born to a Deadwood South Dakota prostitute in the late 1800's. She was adopted by her mothers sister and husband, Mr. & Mrs. Cadwell. She married at the age of 14 to a man, surname Ramey. Three children were born of this marriage, one of whom I remember fondly, Walter Ramey. Her second marriage was to Arthur E. Stoddard, my g-grandfather, one child was born, Minnie Leora Stoddard. Her third marriage was to a man surname Caravejal. No children. I believe the Ramey children settled in or around Greeley Colorado although I've not had a chance to look for them. Minnie, also known as "Jackie" married first in SOuth Dakota to Dee Borg and had two children. David, (my father) and Arthur Borg. When the boys were very small she married a second time to Francis Gifford Cox, who adopted the two boys giving them his last name. Viola died in California in the 1950's or 1960's. She and my grandmother Jackie did not get along well. Jackie was close to Uncle Walter and stayed in touch with him and his wife Ethyl. Jackie has fewer memories as time goes on and I ask her questions frequently to keep them fresh!! I'm sure she is tired of my questions!! My grandmother Jackie is old and tired and ready to die now. Although this hurts me greatly I would very much like to know of her family and its history. With all the adoptions in this family I expect it to be difficult and of course I appreciate family stepping in to look after other family. The Ramey family has a great deal of information on the Ramey name from your neck of the woods and they can be found on this site as well as many others. I contacted them and he snail-mailed me a "chart to fill out" but I haven't the info he needs on this part of the family. Still looking though!!!
