Hi Susan,
I have been researching a one name study of the Cadwell family name for some years. In my search I have had to take in its variants, such as Kadwell, which I have traced back to 1550 in the county of Kent. All the Kadwell's spelt this way come from around Rolvenden in Kent and it is likely that the Kidwell's are a variant of this name. I have not yet started on the Kidwell name although I am certain that there are people reseaching this name in Britain. Perhaps you could start by appealing to them. Have you checked the Goons to see if anyone is doind such a study.
Best of luck,
Chris.
