Noreen:
I have not been to Cape for about 12 years. Denis Cadogan passed away about 7 years ago.
There are no more Cadogan's of my line left there
The only 2 Cadogan's born there that are of our line are Father Donal(Dan) Cadogan and his sister Breda (Bridget)O'Leary
These people are probably pushing into there late 70's/early 80's
Tiegue is Irish for Timothy
If I told you that I was from Newfoundland, I was mistaken. I had worked with someone who lived in Nova Scotia who knew of a group of Cadogan's who lived on Logy Bay Road
I was born in Buffalo in 1960...my grandfather (John Cadogan) immigrated into Chicago around 1895 (I have several of his handwritten letters from this time) and he sailed the Great Lakes...ending up in Buffalo where he met his wife Catherine Regan who was the daughter of a saloon owner
The Irish on the Buffalo Harbor at the turn of the century were known as the "Irish Navy" and the political cronies (mainly pub owners) really controlled the water front activity
It was easy for Cadogan's of Cape to leave since most of the men who lived on South Harbor of Cape Clear were Queenstown Pilots who would be signalled by passing sailing ships either coming to Irish/British ports or heading for the US/Canada. These men would board the sailing ships and either captain them into irish/british ports or captain them as far west as the Azore Islands...They were "known" in the sailing community for their sailing skills
Sorry if I confused us both
