The earliest written ie OPR records in Scotland (various spellings)are for the early 1600's, but to be fair that's when the vast majority of OPR began. ie Alexander Cadon b abt 1629 marriage 26 April 1654 Urquhart, Moray, Scotland. Mart [sic] 1639 Brechin Angus Scotland. Effie [short for Euphemia] Caddon christened 26 July 1662 Brechin Angus Scotland. So it would seem likely that there were a fair number of the name over a sizeable area of Scotland before 1600. I've verified these records at GROS.
