Mildred Cable, English missionary & Traveller
I am urgently searching for details of origins of my relative (family, ascendants etc.) Her name was (Alice) Mildred Cable, Born in Guildford, England in 1878, died 1952), daughter of a draper. Mildred was a dynamic English Missionary and traveller (descendant, like myself, of Scottish Cables from Forfar, Angus). Mildred Cable wrote over 20 books including "Through the Jade Gate and Central Asia" (1927), "A Desert Journal" (1934) and "The Gobi Desert" (1942). For this last work Mildred received an award from the Royal Central Asian Society. She spent much time travelling in the company of the two famous missionary sisters: Evangeline French (Eva)(1868-1960) and Fransesca
French (1871-1960). They became known as "The Trio" and in 1923 they received permission to preach to the nomadic tribes of the Gobi Desert. They learned and spoke the local language... etc...etc.
After the Chinese Revolution in 1939, the three friends returned to the UK and lectured widely in various universities throughout the UK and Commonwealth.
Any news, however slight, will be most welcome with many thanks. Anthony Cable
