I'm trying to locate any sources of information that can lead me to the birthplace of John Allison Evans in Maryland. John 1st emigrated to Illinois in the 1830's, came to California in '49 and then returned in 1852 with his family and about 100 other families in a wagon train. The family operated a hotel, the Jefferson House, in the foothills above Yuba City in the 1850's. Later in the 1800's they moved north to around Gridley in Butte Co. In the 1900's a large part of the family moved to the Bay Area. I'd be grateful for any leads.
