I am looking for the burial site of E. Hall Martin, a painter of the Gold Rush days, who is said to have died of cholera on a sketching trip in the mountains near Downieville in 1851. I assumed he might have been buried where he died with no marker, but thought I would look at possible sites. E. Hall Martin was a portrait painter born in Cincinnati, O., in 1818. He arrived in San Francisco in 1849 and moved to Sacramento by the 1850 census. His painting, The Prospector, 1850, was exhibited recently in Oakland. I am researching him for a cousin whose ggrandfather and grandfather were named after him because he was a friend of their gggrandfather. Thanks for the information you shared and I would appreciate any other suggestions you might have, if any.
