I searched the 1860 Census of Yolo County in the Washington Township. The Census was taken on June 26, 1860. I found my family but the head of the family is missing from the Census! My Joseph C. Gray Sr. who was born in Pennsylvania was not listed. There is another Joseph Gray who is listed on the same page and he was born in Ireland and has a family of his own. So where is my Joseph C. Gray Sr.?
The names that are on the 1860 Census of my family is:
Jeanette A. Gray - age 21 - female - birthplace N. Jersey
Mary Gray - age 6 - female - birthplace California
Aramenta Gray - age 4 - female - birthplace California
Catherine Gray - age 2 - female - birthplace California
William S. Gray - age 2 1/2 - male - birthplace California
(NAMES APPEAR EXACTLY HOW THEY ARE ON CENSUS.)
My great, great, great, great grandmother's name is Annie Jeanette Gray. I have never seen her use her middle name before as her first! This is new to me.
Would any body know where my great, great, great, great grandfather Joseph C. Gray Sr. would have been? He was a Veteran of the Mexican War would that have affected him on signing the Census? It's weird to me that he is not mentioned at all.
