Stephens-Tompkins, Madison, Yolo Co., CA

I am looking for ANY info on William A. Stephens, son of Joseph Josiah and Eliabeth "Bettie" (Davis) Stephens, born 14 May 1861 in Madison, Yolo Co., CA. When did he die? Where was he buried? He's not buried next to his wife. What was his occupation?

William married Claudia M. Tompkins 12 Jan 1887 (I assume in Madison). Claudia M. Tompkins, daughter of Joseph M. and Julia M. (Loranger) Tompkins, was born 28 Jul 1864 in Wellington, Gogebic Co., MI. They had one child, Julia E. Stephens, b. in Nov 1890 (I assume in Madison). Claudia died 20 May 1900 in Madison, Yolo Co., CA, age 35. She was buried in Cottonwood Cemetery in Madison next to her husband's family, but William was not buried there. Why not?

After Claudia's death, Julia E. Stephens went to live with her maternal grandparents, Joseph and Julia Tompkins. Julia Tompkins died in 1911 and her husband Joseph died in 1916. What happened to Julia E. Stephens after their deaths? Did she marry?

William A. Stephens' mother, Elizabeth "Bettie" (Davis) Stephens, was a native of Cooper County, Missouri. Reading some biographies of other Stephens' families of Yolo County, I believe this Stephens family may also have been natives of Cooper County, Missouri. Who were Joseph Josiah Stephens' parents and who were Elizabeth "Bettie" (Davis) Stephens' parents?

Lots of questions. I hope somebody "out there" knows something about his family.

Thanks in advance,
Terri Mulliken Allen
