Don, Noticed your response about Nordhoff, CA. and was compelled to write. My great-grandparents (Samuel B. and Martha A. (Cameron) Rose) were also residents of that grandmother, along with 3 siblings were born in that area, too. Samuel moved there around 1883. (Sadly, I have very little information on my Rose family roots.) My Samuel Rose did have a blacksmith's shop in Nordhoff, but moved to Hemet, CA in 1910. (He was originally from Swain County, NC.) Would any of this information suggest a connection with your Rose family???? Thanks for your time.
