My GGGF Moses Allen Lewis was a 49er from Rhode Island who mined for gold in Tuolumne County, but gave it up and opened a mercantile store in Gold Springs (near Columbia) before 1856. He moved to Oakdale in the 1870s, and was buried in the Columbia Masonic Cemetery (at the State Park), Tuolumne County, in 1883.
His wife was Melinda Manchester (also of Rhode Island). They had 6 sons and 2 daughters, most of whom settled in Oakdale.
I am looking for a photo or image of Moses Allen Lewis. I have searched the Columbia State Park archives, the libraries at Sonora and Modesto, and the museum at Oakdale, but cannot find any.
Do you have a picture of Moses Allen Lewis?
