Porterville Recorder, The (CA) - January 27, 2007 Deceased Name: Gordon D. Horton He was a resident of Porterville, California since 1967. He was born in Palestine, Texas, to Calvin and Eva Horton. He was a Social Service worker for Tulare County for over 10 years. He also was a carpenter, he enjoyed working with wood. He loved to go camping and fishing and he always had fish fry's. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Porterville, CA. He was a veteran of WWII. He served as a Sergeant and he was a Tail-Gunner in the Army Air Force. After he served his time in the military, he received a master's degree at The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary College. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Melva Horton of Porterville, CA; one son, Calvin Dale Horton of Woodlake, CA; two daughters, Glenda Horton of Tulare and Brenda Cronon of Tulare, CA; two step-sons, Irvin Covert of Porterville, CA and Alvin Covert of Porterville, CA; one step-daughter, Carol Watson of Porterville, CA; one brother, Ross Horton of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister, Reba Reamy of Abilene, Texas; 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one step-son, Orin Covert. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2007. There also will be a Chapel Service held on Monday, January 29, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. with Mr. Marshall Brookey as the Officiant at the Whitehurst Loyd Chapel in Porterville, CA. The burial will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Porterville, CA, with The American Legion Post #20 of Porterville, CA officiating at the graveside service.
