It helps when you identify WHO was living in Sierra Township at the time: Lydia Bridges, age 47, Mother-in-law Belle Bridges, 14, sister (to Nancy) Nancy Pineo J, 17, wife William Pineo(as transcribed), age 26, born in Maine http://www.redding.com/news/2009/mar/26/manton-was-almost-named-mans-town/ Here is the general area. In the 1880 census, they had a neighbor, (one census page back, named Andrew Kauffman and his wife Louisa. The Bureau of Land Management has a database of land patents issued under the Homestead Act: http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/search/default.aspx#searchTabIndex=0&searchByTypeIndex=0 It shows Andrew and Louisa obtaining land in this area at Township 28 North, Range 2 West and in Section 4. While this family were in the area as identified in the 1880 census, their census enumeration may have been in slightly different areas, alothough both were enumerated 19 June by A.A. Kaufmann (related to Andrew?). This Topo Map shows Section 4(number in red), between Lyonsville and Lyman Springs. http://msrmaps.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=12&Z=10&X=757&Y=5578&W=3 On the top left corner of the map, you can zoom out. If you zoom out to the 5th block above the + sign, you can see Manton at the top and Lyman Springs to the bottom: http://msrmaps.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=15&Z=10&X=94&Y=697&W=3 Ron Bestrom Tacoma, WA Notify Administrator about this message?
