Looking for information on:
Ella ‘Alta’ West was born about 1866 in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana and she died about April 25, 1914 in Las Vegas, San Miguel County, New Mexico at age 48 – she was buried in Montefiore, Masonic, Odd Fellows Cemeteries, Las Vegas, New Mexico; she married Frank J. Gehring who was born 1861 probably in Crawfordsville and who died in 1931 in Corning, Tehama County, California at age 70 years and is buried in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Corning, Tehama County, California with is brother Eddie and Eddie’s wife Lola, who moved there with him probably sometime after Ella died – Ella and Frank were married on September 01, 1884 in Montgomery County. Ella and Frank moved to Kansas from Indiana. In 1899 Ella, age 33, and Frank, age 38, moved to Las Vegas, San Miguel County, New Mexico. Frank Gehring operated a hardware store on 6th Street and his brother Edward Gehring is listed (Las Vegas City Directory 1900) as a clerk in that store. Both lived at the Central Hotel, which was less than a full block away from the store. In those years there was a dire housing shortage and their residence in a hotel reflects that.
Edward ‘Eddie’ Gehring born April 24, 1871 in Indiana and died April 07, 1938 in Corning, Tehama County, California; he married Lola M. who was born in 1874 and died in 1965 in Corning, Tehama County, California – both are buried in the Sunset Hill Cemetery, Corning, Tehama County, California.
