Modesto Bee, Thursday 30 May 1985 Page B-3:

Edward J. Koncel (Delhi)

A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the Allen Mortuary for Edward Joseph Koncel, 72, who died Monday in Turlock.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Turlock Memorial Park.

Mr. Koncel had lived in Delhi since 1976. He had worked as a chef before retiring. He was a member of Sacred heart Church. He was a native of Chicago.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Koncel of Delhi; three sons, Robert Koncel of Turlock, Bill McCall of Delhi and Joseph Koncel of Whittier; four daughters, Lisa Hampton of Modesto, Nancy Downing of Yerba Linda, Marie Crane of Oceanside and Pat Pennant of Auburn; 17 grand-children; 3 great-grandchildren.

------------------------------------
The towns mentioned are all in California. Delhi is a town of 3,000 or so east of Turlock. Turlock, in turn, is now a town of 40,000 or so south of Modesto. There is no explanation as why that middle son's surname is McCall. "Ruth" isn't a nickname for Mildred, but you can't believe everything you read in the papers. Obituaries are normally given to the lowest cub reporter on the totem pole, and not checked too rigorously.

Some of the people mentioned may still be in the towns listed, and you might be able to find them in one of the on-line telephone books.

If you can find the funeral home, cemetery or church in an on-line telephone book, you could try to write to them. They might have records, or someone might know of her family. If they do, they might be willing to forward a note to those people. They would probably not be willing to send you names and addresses of living people, for privacy's sake. If you write, a small donation ($5 or so) would not be out of line, and a stamped, self-addressed envelope would be a must.

I have no relation to the deceased. I live in Stanislaus County. A lady on another forum did me an enormous favor, which I could not repay, so she asked me to do something nice for someone else.
