Here is her obituary from the Modesto Bee, Monday, 16 April 1967 page B-6:

Martha McCapes

Martha F. Lankford McCapes, 78 of Modesto died yesterday at a local hospital after a long illness.

A native of Texas, she had lived in California 50 years and Modesto 23 years. She was a retired employee of the California Vegetable Concentrate plant in Modesto.

Survivors are five children, Jewell B. Ingle and Angela E. Hansen, both of Modesto, Mabel V. Alexander of Salinas, Wanda W. O'Loan of Madera and Nina A. Gragon of Vallejo; eight grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services are pending in Dinuba. The Modesto Mortuary is in charge.

All of the towns listed above are in California.

The Stanislaus County clerk, at
http://criis.com/stanislaus/sdeath.htm

has her listed as " MCCAPES, MARTHA F AKA LANKFORD ", but no explanation for the AKA.

If you can find the Funeral home in an on-line telephone book, you could try to write to them. They might have records. If they do, they might be willing to forward a note to those people. They would probably not be willing to send you names and addresses of living people, for privacy's sake. If you write, a small donation ($5 or so) would not be out of line, and a stamped, self-addressed envelope would be a must.

I have no relation to Martha. I live in Stanislaus County. A lady on another forum did me an enormous favor, which I could not repay, so she asked me to do something nice for someone else. I went to the library and read microfilm until I was dizzy.
