I looked through the Modesto Bee from 23 March to 30 March without seeing his obit. I could have missed it if:
1) They got it in late;
2) He died in a moderately spectacular accident, which made the front page of the local news section instead of the obit column;
3) He died in Oakdale or Turlock, both of which have their own newspapers. The Modesto Bee didn't usually print obits of ordinary people who were "done" by their hometown paper.
That particular reel was fainter than most. I could have just flat missed it. If you know the town he died in, and it wasn't Modesto, post again and I'll try a different newspaper.
