Elijah Ward Pell

My 3rd great grandfather was boarding in the city of Sonoma in 1880 with John and Anna Gibson. He died after the 1880 census in June of that year. Could someone there lookup an obit and death record for Elijah? I know he was born in 1806 in New Rochelle, NY and he and his wife Seba (possibly Roberts) and 2 daughters, were Mormon converts who came 'round the horn on the ship Brooklyn in 1846. On the voyage out he was expostulated for "wicked and liscentious behaviour". Would like to know where he is buried and can't afford to join Ancestry or find a grave.
Thank-you,
Dana E Nowak
