Holmes, Charles H. Sr. TX Rangers , CSA 1837-1903
He is known to be buried in the Santa Rosa Rural Cementery.
Spot known and no marker.Buried with son, Jr, and both of their wives and only Jr, has a Sp-Am War VA marker.Other 3 unmarked.
We need to confirm that he was a Lt., Texas Rangers (State police type, not Terry's Rangers, CSA) during the Civil War.Somewhere I saw that he went into the Rangers in 1859 at the time of a Mexican Bandit war.No record anywhere so far that he was in during the warwhen the Rangers became part of the CSA.He is shown in local papers, Mem. Day listings of Vets in 1916 and 1919 as "Lt, Texas Rangers, CSA)this is not good enough for a VA marker.
Anyone with information that may help, please post here.
Thanks
CC, Docent and Civil War Specialist SRRC.
