Thomas "Tommie" GILBERT, d. 5/1964
Posted by: Geraldine R. Gilbert Date: November 04, 1999 at 09:17:14

Someone out there must be able to help...I know my uncle existed, but trying to find his date of birth to put into my family tree has gone nowhere. I was his only niece, in fact, I was and am the last of the GILBERT line from Thomas GILBERT (b. 1843 or 1842) who married Phillis Ann KITTO (b. 1851) of Breage, Cornwall, England. Immigrated to Grass Valley, Nevada County, California, USA, around 1863 or 1864.

These are the specifics:
Thomas William GILBERT (eldest son of Thomas Henry GILBERT (b.1872,d.1952) and Mary BENFIELD (b.1880,d.1958)) was born in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California, USA. He had a younger brother, Richard James GILBERT (31 Aug 1906 - 27 Oct 1981), and younger sister, Marie Gertrude (Gilbert) ROTH (13 Feb 1912 - 18 Sep 1992).

Thomas William GILBERT married Ruth ______. She was a nurse. They lived on W. Napa St. in Sonoma for numerous years.
Tommie worked at the Sonoma State Hospital for numerous years. They had no children (only child was born dead).

"Uncle Tommie" died of a heart attack in May, 1964. The Funeral Arrangements were done by Bates, Evans, & Fehrensen in Sonoma, California, USA. However, as I understand it, the internment of his remains was at the GILBERT plot (I.O.O.F. Cemetery) in Grass Valley, Nevada County, California, USA. He was also the last known owner of that GILBERT plot.

I can't understand why he isn't listed on the SSDI Index. After all, Ruth is listed under her second husband's name of JELF.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. Anyone knowing anything about the man would be appreciated. I would like to close this generation and proceed to the next generation in my genealogical search, but I need Tommie's DOB to do so.

Any info. gladly accepted.
Geri R. Gilbert (the last of the GILBERT line)
