Evidently in the Siskiyou County area between, at least, 1852 and 1860, Jmaes S Snelling, MD, posted ads in the local newspaper during some of that period. In the 1860 cenesus he was listed as being 40 years old. He may be the James S Snelling, physician, born 1819, son of William Snelling and Malinda Pollard, who was living with his brother Reuben Pollard Snelling in Harris County, Texas, in 1880. Can anyone confirm that?
