Looking for further information on my great grandfather Richard Henry Feeny/Feeney (b. 11/12/1822 - d. 2/7/1899) from County Meath, Ireland. I do not know when he immigrated to the US, however I believe he began the naturalization process in 1859 in Yreka (Siskiyou County) California, but "lost his papers" before completing the process. Richard Henry Feeny/Feeney had varied talents. He built and operated The Feeny Hotel in the once thriving gold mining community of French Gulch, California, He and a partner James E. Carr owned the "Shasta & Yreka Turnpike Company. He was a gold miner and it is said he was in the drug business (prescribed meds ?). He eventually settled in French Gulch (Shasta County), California with his wife Sarah Jane Dooley (b. 6/30/1856 - d. 9/20/1908). Sarah J. Dooley came to the US with two sisters, Elizabeth Dooley (nee Murdock) who settled in Northern California as well and Tilly Dooley who married a fellow known only by my eldery aunt as "Henry". Tilly and Henry settled in Murfreesboro, Tennessee where it is said he owned a meat market/butcher shop.
Any information ... or suggestions on furthering my research are greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Susan
