Hi Alistair,

Here is a wesite for older deaths in Calif. You can get a guest pass for lookups. http://www.vitalsearch-ca.com/
Mildred's date of death looks like 25 Oct 1928, certificate number 53831. Both are a little hard to read.

Try contacting the Santa Cruz public library, they have a nice little genealogy dept. They might be able to find an obit or even a cemetary name.
