Valerie,

Glad I was able to clarify for you. Do you know the name of the school where he taught? Alisal covers a large area and in those days there were a lot of small schools spread throughout the township. You might check census records which might tell you at least the area where he lived while teaching. Usually teachers lived close to the school.

You might want to contact Monterey County Historical Society in Salinas at www.mchsmuseum.com or for more information try www.cagenweb.com/monterey. I note on the latter that they have a listing for schools, but apprently the site is not yet activated. Wouldn't hurt to ask either site about schools and/or teachers.
