Hall---HELP!!!

My father was born Alfred Loraine Hall, Jr. in Santa Cruz July 8, 1917. His father was Alfred Loraine Hall, his mother was Nellie Riley McGowan Hall. Alfred Sr. was supposedly killed in the Hercules Powder Plant explosion in Pinole before my father was born. I'm assuming he also worked at the Hercules Powder Plant in Santa Cruz. His mother went to Santa Cruz to have my father because she had "family" there.

Everything my father's mother said has to be prefaced with the word "supposedly". I can't find a darn thing on Alfred Sr.(Or Nellie) anywhere and the more I dig the higher that stupid brick wall gets.

Any help would be Greatly appreciated.
