YOU ARE INCREDIBLE!! I had known that she was previously married to a Ward, but had no idea what his name was and put the estimated marriage date around 1905. You have now given me an actual name, date and the circumstances. You are great!! Words cannot express how much I appreciate your help!!
I have a question, maybe you might know what direction to send me in. Are there any indexes available for deaths between the years of 1886 and 1900 for San Jose? The reason I ask is that I have reason to believe that Eunice Flora Sayle's mother, Matilda Morton Miner may have come out to California to be with her children from Indiana. Her husband died between 1870-1880 in Indiana and she had lived with her other daughter Kate in the 1880 census. Kate also moved out to California and is found living with Judge Sayle and his wife from 1900 until the time of her death. The California death index doesn't go back far enough and this time period also falls in the time period between 1880 and 1900 where the is no census.
In 1886, Matilda Miner's sister, Hannah died in Ohio and in the obit it mentions a surviving sister in California. From the obituary I am able to pin down all of the remaining siblings by location except Matilda and believe that the "sister in California" has to be Matilda. She was born about 1808 in Maine and was positively alive in the 1880 census.
Any suggestions about resources I should check would be greatly appreciated. Did California have a state census I should check? You have been an incredible help and I cannot thank you enough. Many blessings to you and your family.
