Have you seen the 1920 census? Looks like a goldmine to me...
1920 census Watsonville, Santa Cruz, CA
Stephen S. Jarrett 42 (born TN, father born NC, mother born NC) with wife Clara S. 40 (born CA, father born Canada, mother born CA), and son Stephen S. Jr. 0/12? (possibly 9/12) CA/TN/CA
Also in hh:
German, Clara A. MIL, Widowed, 59, CA/MA/NY
Kellogg, Susana G. Grand-MIL, Widowed, 83, NY/NY/MA
Tannler?, Sarah, Grand-Aunt IL, Widowed, 74, NY/NY/MA
And in hh before this one:
Harriett L. Jarrett, Head, 72, Widowed, NC/NC/NC
(guessing this is Stephen's mother)
In 1910 Stephen S. Jarrett was also in Watsonville, Santa Cruz, CA with wife Susie C. 30 (born CA, father born Canada, mother born CA) (guessing it was Susie Clara or Clara Susie). Married 5 years, no children. Also living in hh was Joseph S., Father, 63, Married 1 time for 43 years (NC/Germany/NC)
Took a shot at the 1880 census...
in Wolfs, Unicoi, TN found a Joseph Jerrett 31 (born NC), with wife Harriett A. (born NC), and children Brazilla 9 (daughter), James A. 4 and Samuel S. 2
(Note: I'm not researching these lines -- just passing through)
