On the 1880 Butler County, Kansas Census, Dr. Christopher Martin Hughey's children included Ophelia A. (20), Etta (16), AND Ted (8). Ophelia had been previously listed on the 1860 Jeffeson County, Illinois Census as being 11 months; parents were Dr. Hughey and his wife, Martha Jane.
Other information I had on my great grandfather's brothers and sisters born in Illinois was that of an Effie Alice Hughey (born August 1864 in Jefferson County, Illinois). Effie was married to Archibald Steele in Lompoc, California in 1887. Effie and Archibald's family is listed on the 1900 San Luis Obispo, California Census. Where was she in 1880 if she were not living with her family in Butler County, Kansas? Other information suggests that Ophelia was living in Santa Barbara County, California in 1900. Both Dr. Christopher Hughey and his wife died in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, California.
