I have just discovered an ancestor, George Slater in the US 1880 Census listed as being an inmate at O'Neal, San Joaquin, CA. The Head of Household is listed as Asylum Supt. with 8 Attendants and the remainder all Inmates, men and women. Does anyone have any information on this asylum? I would appreciate any information I can get.
