Anthony McPhee of Stockton, CA.

Trying to find out who were the parents of Anthony McPhee who lived in Stockton from probably sometime in the 1890's until his death in 1931. He was born around 1862 and emigrated from Nova Scotia around 1885 and probably lived for a time in Boston. Family lore says that my great uncle, John McPhee from Cape Breton in Nova Scotia lived in California for a while. He eventually ended up in Boston where he died around 1909. He was married to Sarah McGillivray. They had a son Anthony who last appeared in a Canadian Census in 1881. He was still living in 1909 because he was mentioned in his father's will. The only Anthony McPhee I've found in a US census who was born in 1862 was the one in Stockton. I've sent for and received both his Death Certificate and his Marriage Certificate and neither has any information on his parents. He was married in Los Angeles in 1888 to Rose Howley from Wisconsin. They had four sons-Vincent Jerome, Harvey Elmer, Carl Andrew and Lee Anthony. The father and sons were carpenters or contractors in the Stockton area. Besides the marriage certificate, would there have been a marriage license issued with information such as place of birth, parents's names, etc? If these exist would they have been micro-filmed and maybe available to view at a FHC? Any information appreciated.
