According to family records, Rachel HITCHCOCK married Samuel C. CLARK on 1 Aug 1850 in Stockton CA.
Do marriage records exist in CA from that early? and if so, would they give names of Rachel and Samuel's parents?
Only info I have on Rachel's family is she had a brother, Isaac, who purchased land in TX during 1860s.
I know that a HITCHCOCK family came to CA in 1846, but I haven't been able to tie Rachel to them.
By 1860 census,
Rachel HITCHCOCK CLARK (b 1829 MO) and
Sam "ClaCk" (b 1829 TN)
are shown to be living in Merced CA with children,
M.A.(age 9)
Margaret (age7)
Elizabeth (age 5)
Adaline (actually Rachel Eveline, mygg-grandmother) (age 2)
R. PATTERSON (age 83)
John SHARP (age25)
I can't find the family for 1870 census, but by 1880 census they are living in Montague Co. TX.
ANY information on the HITCHCOCK or CLARK family would be appreciated.
